How deep should I lay the drip pipe?
Above ground on top of fleece, cover with mulch – underground, 10–20 cm with ventilation.
Standard installation: The drip pipe is laid on top of the soil above the weed barrier and then covered with bark mulch. This keeps it accessible, protects it and ensures optimal watering of the root area.
Underground: When laying drip pipe underground, it should be buried approximately 10 - 15 cm deep in lawns and around 20 cm deep in beds so that it is close to the roots.
Ventilation is always necessary for underground installation, regardless of how deep the pipe is laid – otherwise, air cannot escape and the water will be distributed unevenly.
The supply line may be a branch line, the drip pipe itself, however, should be laid in a ring or loop so that all drip points receive water evenly.
In short: Close to the surface on soil + fleece + mulch is standard. Underground 10–15 cm for lawns, 20 cm for beds – always with ventilation.
